1. What are file archievers and what do they do?
Archivers (also called compressors/zipping utilities) are programs that help you to pack a number of files into one single file, mainly used as backup or delivering contents in a much easier and quicker way. Most archievers can pack/unpack (zip/unzip) files.
2. What is the best archiver out there?
WinRAR for sure, but if you are looking for a free alternative, 7-Zip will be your choice. It is still as powerful as WinRAR.
