1. What is the use of an Image Viewer?
Actually Windows systems have built-in image viewer that allows you to open/view all popular formats of pictures. The problem is it is hard to get them organized. Image viewer software, better described as an organizer, gives you to the ability to manage your pictures (esp. digital photo collections). In addition, most viewers have other valuable features - "red eye removal", "batch renaming/converting" etc.
2. Best image viewer?
In my opinion, FastStone Image Viewer and XnView are the best of the best freeware in this category. Although ACDSee has been the symbol of image viewer/management tool, the recent versions of ACDSee is anti-functional, bulky and slow. (v3.1 is the "golden" version). So why not try out new alternatives? (and they are FREE!)
