1. What are PDF files?
PDF stands for Portable Document Format. It is a file format used to represent documents in a manner independent of application software, hardware, and operating systems. Each PDF file encapsulates a complete description of a fixed-layout flat document, including the text, fonts, graphics, and other information needed to display it. (Wikipedia) What is good about this document format is that it looks exactly the same on any devices with the use of a PDF viewer/reader (eg. Adobe Reader)
2. How to create a PDF from other documents?
Long time ago, in order to convert a document to a PDF file, you will need to buy Adobe Acrobat. As time goes, there are lots of free alternatives for your PDF needs. The most common one is to install a virtual printer on your PC - when you use this printer to print the document (eg. from MS Office). You will result in getting a PDF file. This is somehow a conversion process but in fact the printer works as it print out the document as a PDF file. Therefore, you usually can make a PDF once you have got a "Print" option.
3. Some good PDF tools to use?
For average users, you may want to convert documents to PDF. I personally use Bullzip PDF Printer for doing this. I also use PDFill PDF Tools to merge/cut/reorder PDF pages, or adding watermarks.
